We all know the importance of vitamin D for a healthy immune system, strong bones and teeth, but recent research has suggested that high-dose vitamin D3 supplements may dramatically improve symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
Researchers, led by Dr Bernard Corfe, from the University of Sheffield's Molecular Gastroenterology Research Group, investigated the association between vitamin D levels and the severity of IBS symptoms - and particularly the extent to which IBS affects their quality of life.
IBS accounts for 10 per cent of visits to GP surgeries and the condition has a significant and escalating burden on society as a consequence of lost work days and time spent on regular hospital appointments.
The study, which is the first of its kind, found that out of 51 IBS patients tested 82 per cent exhibited insufficient vitamin D levels. To dramatically improve symptoms of IBS, researchers suggested sufferers take a high-dose vitamin D3 supplement.
Vitamin Ddeficiency can be easily corrected by supplementation and simple lifestyle changes. Taking just one spray a day of one of our oral sprays and spending more time outdoors can boost vitamin D levels and have a positive impact on quality of life.
With intraoral supplementation, the vitamin is absorbed directly into the blood stream via the rich vein system located just under the surface of the buccal membrane of the inner mouth, which is also advantageous for those individuals who may have trouble absorbing it through the digestive system – such as those with IBS.
Our Vitamin D Oral Spray range is listed in the NHS recommended product guide for vitamin D supplementation and comes in different strengths for people of all ages.
Starting from £5.95, they provide a 3 month supply of vitamin D3 for as little as 6p a day. More information on the entire vitamin D range can be found here.
