2 women. 8,000 miles. 5 months of non-stop rowing across the Pacific Ocean.
At BetterYou, we are incredibly proud to have supported Seas the Day on their record-breaking adventure with our Elite Nutrition Personalised Daily Oral Sprays and Transdermal Magnesium aimed to fuel every row, every day, for 165 days at sea.

The Challenge
Jess Rowe and Miriam Payne set out to complete the world’s first unsupported Pacific crossing by an all-women team. Over 5 months, they battled relentless sun, saltwater sores, muscle fatigue, sleep deprivation, and the physical & mental strain of continuous rowing.
With only dehydrated, high-calorie rations on board, nutrient intake was limited. While these foods provide dense calories, they often lack essential vitamins and minerals putting additional stress on the body and mind.
Our role was clear: support healthy nutrient intake for peak performance, energy, and recovery through personalised supplementation so the team could row efficiently and make sharp decisions under extreme conditions.

Elite Personalised Nutrition
Every person is unique. Using our 20+ years of experience in nutritional science, we designed truly bespoke oral sprays tailored to each individual’s needs:
1. Testing biomarkers for each rower at multiple points during training over a year.
2. Mapping dietary intake
3. Formulating personalised dosages unique to each rower’s physiology.
The result? The Elite Nutrition Personalised Oral Spray, created in conjunction with an incredible team of athletes - and for the first time, we are testing its efficacy during this voyage, making this a world-first trial.

Jess Rowe
Experienced ocean rower with a history of tackling extreme challenges and building resilience completing the Atlantic row 3 days ahead of her team’s closest competitor.

Miriam Payne
Developed her interest in ocean rowing through previous Atlantic races and adventurous pursuits like Mount Kilimanjaro.
Fuelled to Perform
Our oral sprays delivered vitamins, minerals, and micronutrients directly into the bloodstream, bypassing digestion which was essential during long rowing shifts and limited access to food and water.
Transdermal magnesium was added to provide targeted muscle recovery and reduce fatigue. Together, these innovations helped Jess and Miriam maintain energy, cognitive function, and immune health under the extreme conditions of the Pacific.

Why This Matters
This isn’t just a rowing record - it’s a proof of concept for personalised nutrition under extreme conditions. By tailoring supplementation to the individual, we can maintain nutrient levels even when diet is restricted, improving both physical performance and decision-making.
Our team will now analyse biomarker results post-expedition to see how nutrient levels were maintained — a true validation of BetterYou’s pioneering approach.

Supporting a Greater Cause
Beyond endurance and nutrition, Seas the Day rowed to raise awareness and funds for the Outward Bound Trust Charity, inspiring women to dream big and overcome challenges. They’ve raised over £100,000 to date!

Our Pride
We are proud to have created the world’s first personalised oral spray programme for extreme endurance, and even prouder of what Jess and Miriam achieved. This journey demonstrates the power of science, determination, and personalised nutrition.
