Turmeric is a bright orange spice which has been long used in Indian cuisine and Ayurvedic medicine. This super spice has numerous health benefits and here are nutritionist Kim Pearson’s top five:

1. Bloating

Turmeric is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties but interestingly, it could also help support healthy digestive function. One study found that turmeric reduced symptoms of bloating and gas in people suffering from indigestion. In Germany turmeric is prescribed to those with digestive problems.

2. Anti-Ageing

As we age our bodies can be prone to low grade inflammation – this has come to be known as ‘inflammaging’ due to it’s potential to speed up ageing processes. Curcumins are amongst the most well researched compounds in turmeric providing its well-known anti-inflammatory benefits. Curcumin protects our skin by quenching free radicals and reducing inflammation. It has also been shown to reduce wound-healing time and promote collagen synthesis. What about the absorption issues?
