Iron

Is the Iron Oral Spray vegan approved?

Yes. Our Iron Oral Spray is vegan approved by the vegetarian society.

How long will the Iron Oral Spray last?

The Iron Oral Spray will provide a minimum of 48 daily doses (4 sprays per dose).

What form of iron is in the Iron Oral Spray?

The form of iron is Ferric EDTA (Fe+++).

Why does Iron Oral Spray contain sweetener and sugar?

There are two reasons we include sugar within our Iron spray, taste and stability. We include stevia as a sweetener, but it can become unstable in the product in higher doses. We combat this by reducing the stevia, and adding in a small amount of sugar to improve the stability, quality and taste of the final product.

Iron has a very strong, unpleasant flavour profile that can be very hard to mask. We have spent a long time working on the flavour of our Iron spray to produce a great tasting formula that supports usage and compliance. The amount of sugar used is the equivalent to 5 grains, which means the spray is suitable for anyone following a diabetic diet.

Should I take all four sprays together or spread it throughout the day?

This is down to personal preference, either way provides optimal absorption. Though you may find it easier to take them all together to ensure you don’t forget a dose.

The oral sprays do not need to be taken with food or a drink so can be used at your convenience.

Our studies have found that the best place for absorption are on the inside of the cheek. When using multiple sprays we would recommend spraying in this area.

Do I need to take the spray with food or drink?

No. The oral spray delivery mechanism avoids processing by the digestive system, meaning it can be taken at any time of day with or without food. The active ingredients are delivered directly into the bloodstream via the mucosal membranes in the mouth.

What time of day should I use the spray?

The spray can be taken at any time of day, the key is to make it part of your daily routine.

Many people find it is easiest to take it first thing in the morning as part of their morning routine, but as the sprays are easy to use, portable and don’t need to be taken with food or drink, they can be used any time of day.

Magnesium

Why does it tingle when I apply it to my skin?

The most important fact to remember is that this isn’t an allergic reaction to the magnesium, as it magnesium is naturally found within the body and is vital to good health. This can actually be a sign the body’s cellular magnesium levels are low. This tingling sensation is caused by the magnesium, which is a large molecule being rapidly absorbed through the epidermis.

Another factor that can influence this reaction is the amount used on one area. We recommend using a small amount per area and increasing gradually. Also if you have dry or broken skin it may heighten the sensation so avoid these areas.

This reaction will decrease as your body’s cellular magnesium levels increase.

To reduce the reaction we recommend the following techniques:-

  •  Apply only a small amount to any individual skin area. Massage in well.
  • Apply after a shower onto wet skin, while pores are open.
  • Vary the application areas to increase the bodies overall magnesium level.
  • Little but often is the key. Massage in and wait for a minute or so then try a little more.

The key is to apply transdermal magnesium wherever it feels comfortable. The magnesium, once absorbed into the skin, is circulated around the body so there is no direct need to focus just on a single area. However, once your magnesium levels begin to rise you will find areas that were sensitive before are no longer.

Magnesium Flakes can provide a gentle solution to raising your levels. Added to a bath or foot bath they can provide a lower concentration of the solution that will still help increase your magnesium levels.

Can I use transdermal magnesium during pregnancy?

Transdermal magnesium is perfectly safe to use during pregnancy with no restrictions on dosage levels during this time.

However, it is important that during pregnancy you avoid essential oils. Magnesium Oil Joint Spray, Magnesium Oil Recovery Spray and Magnesium Oil Goodnight Spray all contain essential oils.

All our other Magnesium products are suitable during pregnancy and breastfeeding, with a full list of suitable products being found here.

I take medication, are there any contraindications?

There are no contraindications with any of our transdermal magnesium products.

Is magnesium safe to take orally?

Our Magnesium Flakes, MagnesiumOil Original and Senstive sprays and Magnesium Soak are all a pure concentration of magnesium chloride making them perfectly safe to ingest. The purity of our source means that these products are free from man-made pollutants and safe for human consumption.

However, as magnesium is a natural relaxant, if you take a large dose orally it can have a laxative effect. Using it as a transdermal product means that it avoids processing by the digestive system and so too avoids the laxative effect; therefore you can take larger doses through the skin.

What is the source of the magnesium chloride hexahydrate?

The magnesium chloride we use is a solution mined in Veendam in the Netherlands. It is mined from an ancient seabed that has been condensed and purified for over 250 million years. To mine the magnesium chloride, spring water is carefully pumped down to dissolve the seam and the solution is brought up to the surface. The magnesium chloride concentration is 31%, perfectly stable to avoid recrystalising. This solution is the foundation of our Magnesium Oil sprays and Magnesium Soak. Nothing is added to it to keep the spray as pure and as universally acceptable as possible.

Can I overdose on transdermal magnesium?

You do not need to worry about overdosing when using transdermal magnesium. Upper limits are only set when using the product orally, as large doses can have a laxative effect due to it being a natural relaxant.

Toxic symptoms from increased magnesium intake are not common as the body eliminates excess amounts, unless there are serious problems with kidney function.

What is the difference between the Magnesium Flakes and the Magnesium Soak?

The key difference between Magnesium Soak and Magnesium Flakes is the concentration. Magnesium Soak contains magnesium chloride at 31% concentration while the Magnesium Flakes are at a concentration of 47%.

Magnesium Flakes will provide a higher level of elemental magnesium when added to a bath than Magnesium Soak will. However, for those with skin conditions where the skin is broken Magnesium Soak provides a more gentle option.

What is the difference between the five Magnesium Oil sprays?

The purest Magnesium Oil is the Original spray. This is suitable for anyone including children and during pregnancy. This spray is purely the magnesium chloride brine as it comes out of the ground. It is called an oil due to its hygroscopic quality meaning it acts like an oil. The Original spray is 31% concentrate in magnesium chloride. 10 sprays delivers a minimum of 200mg (57% RDA) of optimally absorbable elemental magnesium.

The Sensitive spray features the same pure magnesium as the Original, but with a concentration of 15% magnesium chloride, it has been dermatologically tested so that you can be 100% confident that it will be kinder to sensitive skin. 10 sprays delivers a minimum of 100mg (28% RDA) of optimally absorbable elemental magnesium.

The Goodnight spray also has added essential oils; bergamot, clary sage, grape seed and chamomile. These give off a calming and relaxing aroma to help aid normal restful sleep. Again adding the essential oils brings the magnesium chloride concentration down to 28%. 10 sprays delivers a minimum of 180mg (51% RDA) of optimally absorbable elemental magnesium.

The Recovery spray has added essential oils; black pepper, camphor and lemon oils. These essential oils have a warming effect and so help to increase blood flow and aid cell detox during and after sport. The added essential oils bring the magnesium chloride concentration down to 28%. Every 10 sprays delivers a minimum of 180mg (51% RDA) of optimally absorbable elemental magnesium.

The Joint spray has added wintergreen and menthol oil for cooling and calming but also delivers 105mg glucosamine to help promote cartilage health.

The pump on my spray has stopped working. What do I do now?

Unfortunately due to the fact our products are natural, occasionally crystallisation can occur in the pump mechanism, preventing it from working. This can often occur if the spray hasn’t been stored at room temperature or hasn’t been used in a while.

This can easily be fixed by removing the pump from the bottle and running it under a warm tap for a few minutes while pressing down on the pump to help remove the blockage.

If this doesn’t work then please contact customerservices@betteryou.com immediately.

Turmeric

Should I take all four sprays together or spread it throughout the day?

This is down to personal preference, either way provides optimal absorption. Though you may find it easier to take them all together to ensure you don’t forget a dose.

The oral sprays do not need to be taken with food or a drink so can be used at your convenience.

Our studies have found that the best place for absorption are on the inside of the cheek. When using multiple sprays we would recommend spraying in this area.

What is the curcumin content in the Turmeric spray?

Four sprays of the Turmeric oral spray contains 26mg of the three active curcuminoids.

These are encapsulated to enhance bioavailability and allow absorption through the buccal membrane of the inner cheek, avoiding the poor absorption issues commonly associated with turmeric and curcumin being processed through the gut.

Will the Turmeric oral spray cause staining?

The encapsulation process we use make the turmeric molecules more bioavailable, as well as reducing staining.

However turmeric is a bright orange spice and staining can still occur, so we recommend avoiding contact with clothes and other surfaces to prevent this problem.

The spray can cause temporary discolouration of the tongue and teeth, though do not worry, this won’t last long. To avoid this, try spraying directly on to the back of inner cheek, near the molars, or use before brushing your teeth.

Can the Turmeric oral spray be used during pregnancy?

No. There is some research that suggests high dose supplements aren’t suitable during pregnancy as they cause the uterus to contract. For this reason, we do not recommend use during pregnancy.

How long will the spray last?

There are 120 sprays in the 25ml bottle. With the recommended daily dosage of four sprays the Turmeric spray will last 30 days.

Is the Turmeric spray suitable for those with special dietary requirements?

The Turmeric spray is suitable for those following a vegetarian and vegan diet. It is also suitable for diabetics and coeliacs.

Is the Turmeric spray suitable for children?

The Turmeric oral spray is perfectly suitable for children aged 3 years and above. For children under 12 years of age we recommend halving the dosage, as their daily supplementation need is lower than that of an adult.

Are there any contraindications with Turmeric oral spray?

There are no interactions with any other products or medications when using the Turmeric spray.

However we always recommend talking to your GP before starting any dietary supplementation if you suffer from a medical condition.

Do I need to take piperine black pepper with the Turmeric spray?

No. While piperine is one technique commonly used to enhance the bioavailability of turmeric, piperine does not solve the fundamental issue of turmeric being highly insoluble.

BetterYou Turmeric spray utilises a technique called cyclodextrin encapsulation, which makes the turmeric molecules highly water soluble, preventing them from clumping together. This enables the molecules to be absorbed through the intraoral membrane and bypass the inefficient digestive absorption.

What is the plant source of the vegan vitamin D3?

We use Vitamin D3V® as our vegan D3. It is produced using a 100% non-GMO perennial plant source.

Vitamin B12

Should I take all four sprays together or spread it throughout the day?

This is down to personal preference, either way provides optimal absorption. Though you may find it easier to take them all together to ensure you don’t forget a dose.

The oral sprays do not need to be taken with food or a drink so can be used at your convenience.

Does the Boost B12 spray contain caffeine?

As the Boost spray contains green tea extract it does contain a natural form of caffeine, however this is a very small amount, with just 0.5mg per four sprays.

The purpose of the green tea in the spray is not this caffeine element, but that it is a natural preservative as well as being an antioxidant.

A recent study published in The Lancet (June 2016) has also proven that green tea provides a chemical called epigallocatechin gallate, which contributes to improved cognitive function.

Why is chromium added to the Boost B12 spray?

Chromium is another nutrient that is difficult to obtain through diet alone, but has shown to be well absorbed through the mucosal membrane. While B12 and chromium do not need to be taken together, Chromium helps balance blood sugar levels and like B12 helps reduce tiredness and fatigue.

Why is green tea included in the Boost B12 spray?

Green tea is used as a natural preservative as well to reinforce the antioxidant element.

It also provides a chemical called epigallocatechin gallate which contributes to improved cognitive function as proven by a clinical study published in The Lancet (June 2016).

Do I need to take the spray with food or drink?

Vitamin D

Do I need to stop supplementing before checking my vitamin D levels?

There is no right or wrong answer to this. If you are currently taking a vitamin D supplement and want to check the impact of your supplementation routine, then you can take the test straight away.

However, if you’re looking to discover your ‘baseline’ vitamin D levels (diet and lifestyle alone), then we would recommend a ‘wash-out’ period of 4-6 weeks, as this is around how long 25(OH)D (vitamin D) stays in the body.

How many sprays are in the Vitamin D+K2?

There are 90 spray in the bottle, providing a 30 day dose.

Are there any contraindications with taking Vitamin D+K2?

Due to the high levels of vitamin K2 in the D+K2 oral spray we recommend if you are taking anti-coagulants (blood thinners) do not take this product, except on the advice of your doctor.

Is DLux Infant suitable for newborns?

Yes. The DLuxInfant has been especially formulated to provide 400iu (10µg), the Government recommended dose, in a pure oil based solution.

Does your vitamin D test show ‘active’ or ‘storage’ vitamin D?

The blood spot kits measure 25-hydroxyvitamin D, which reflects body vitamin D stores. This is generally accepted to be the most useful indicator of vitamin D status.

The active form is 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D but this is only measured in very few, rare clinical situations. It is also very unstable and difficult to measure so only a few labs in the country do actually measure it.

Is the test kit suitable for children?

Yes. The vitamin D test service suitable for children aged 6 months and above. Children under 6 months of age should have their levels tested by a GP.

The test kit requires a small pin prick to the side of the finger to be able to collect blood spots for testing. Everything you require is enclosed in the pack, including a plaster and a complimentary DLux oral spray based on individual results.

We recommend using the lancet on the heel of the foot of babies and younger children as it provides a larger surface area and reduces discomfort for the child.

Are there any contraindications with DLux?

There are no interactions with any medication. However we always recommend speaking to your GP if you are on any medications.

The DLux sprays are also suitable to use alongside all other BetterYou products.

Are the DLux sprays suitable for special dietary requirements?

Yes. All the DLux sprays are suitable for vegetarians and are officially approved by the Vegetarian Society. They are also suitable for those following a coeliac or diabetic diet.

The oral spray method also means that they are suitable for those with digestive problems.

I’m taking multiple sprays, should I spread it throughout the day or take them all at once?

This is down to personal preference, either way provides optimal absorption.

Our studies have found that the best place for absorption is inside of the cheek. When using multiple sprays we would recommend spraying in this area.

How long will the DLux Junior spray last?

DLuxJunior has 100 sprays per bottle and so if you are using one spray per day it will last 100 days.

How long will the DLux Infant spray last?

DLuxInfant has 100 sprays per bottle and so if you are using one spray per day it will last 100 days.

How long will the DLux 1000 spray last?

DLux1000 has 100 sprays per bottle and so if you are using one spray per day it will last 100 days.

How long will the DLux 3000 spray last?

DLux3000 has 100 sprays per bottle and so if you are using one spray per day it will last 100 days.

What is the difference between the DLux sprays?

The key difference is the dosage level per spray, the different colours are not related to flavours.

DLuxInfant delivers 400IU (10µg) per spray and is unflavoured.

DLuxJunior delivers 400IU (10µg) per spray and has a natural peppermint flavour.

DLux1000 delivers 1000IU (25µg) per spray and has a natural peppermint flavour.

DLux3000 delivers 3000IU (75µg) per spray and has a natural peppermint flavour.

What dosage of vitamin D should I take?

We recommend a dosage level based on body weight and advise supplementation of 1000IU of vitamin D per 25kg of body weight.

This usually equates to one spray of DLux 3000 per day for adults living in the UK. For children our DLux Infant and DLux Junior products provide ideal daily dosage levels.

What is the source of D3 in your DLux products?

The vitamin D3 contained in our DLux sprays is sourced from Lanolin, which is the wool from a sheep. There is no Lanolin found within the product but the process of extracting the D3 from the wool makes this particular product not suitable for those on a vegan diet. We take our product ingredients very seriously and are always researching to find new ways of creating products which are as universally acceptable as possible.

Can I take the MultiVit, Boost and DLux oral sprays together?

Yes. All BetterYou products are designed to work in conjunction with each other without any contraindication.

All dosage levels within the sprays are well within the safe upper limit to ensure no over dosing when combined.

Can I spray the DLux on to food or drink?

The DLux oral spray range has been formulated to be absorbed through the mucosal membrane within the mouth. We have conducted clinical trials with Cardiff University and found that the most effective area for absorption to be on the inside of the cheek. Our formula within our oral sprays have therefore been specifically made to provide optimal and guaranteed, immediate absorption in this area.

Spraying DLux onto your food or into a drink would mean it is processed by the digestive system rather than going through the mucosal membranes in the mouth.
