Fitness (‘fit-nis): n. the condition of being physically fit and healthy.

Do you want that? You are the one who has to live in this skin, might as well make it look good. Chiseled arms, boxing shoulders, washboard abs, bounce-a-quarter-off-me buns, thighs like what, marathon running knees, ballerina calves, live forever body functioning at top speed, strength, and peak performance. Or maybe just settle for a reason to get up from the computer every day that’s more exciting than running on that same old wheel. Fitness is like a thumbprint, something that everyone has, but no two are alike.

a)     Trends in Fitness: There are people selling fitness and there are people buying fitness. Everyone is looking for something accessible, affordable, and effective. There are lots of ways to crack that nut, and there are various needs and preferences providers try to keep up with. Competing with the over stimulated, over scheduled average American lifestyle people are looking for new ways to maximize their fitness. Exergaming, online training tracking, and smart phone applications aim to synchronize the modern world with this basic need. b)    Personal Training: You say you’re looking to work one on one with a trainer to improve your fitness. Someone who will translate your goals into fruition and help you start and maintain an exercise program.

  1. i.         Different Types: Are you ready to choose from a cornucopia? There are trainers that are sports specialized, yoga, dance, core, martial arts, boxing, Pilates, general fitness and so on and on and on. The trick to finding the trainer who’s right for you, is to discover how you want to train and who you want to motivate you. You’ll have to see this person at least once a week, better make them count.
  2. ii.         Myths: A personal trainer will motivate me. Their motivational skills only go so far. They aren’t sitting on your shoulder all day, in the snack drawer, at the salad bar or in the cookie jar. You get out of it what you put in. A personal trainer has the secrets to losing weight. There isn’t a magic wand or golden touch every trainer has. They do, however, have the skills and the knowledge to help you achieve your goals. Listening to their guidance and applying it to your life will help you transform your body, but it might not be too much more that you already know. I have to go to the gym to have a personal trainer. There are actually many trainers that will meet you wherever you’d like, your garage, back yard, beach, park, pretty much anywhere. All the word’s a gym. Most personal trainers look and act like they’ll pound my face into next Tuesday. Like the wide variety of personal training styles, there are a wide variety of personal trainers. If you want a trainer who’s going to scare you into shape then you’ll have to look for someone really hardcore. If you want someone who’s going to crack jokes between reps, you can find that. They are out there.

New Trends: Shorter Sessions, people are busy and trainers recognize this. A 30min session is better than no session at all and trainers are tailoring their sessions down so people can eliminate that excuse. Small Group Sessions, some trainers will take on you and a couple of your friends or family at the same time  as a way for the clients to save money in this economic climate.
